Hopefully by now you’ve heard about the new local branding effort highlighting the tagline, “we don’t coast.” It speaks to the area’s forward momentum and the pride Midwesterners have in their communities. The slogan actually ties in perfectly with another major ongoing initiative, funded by the Iowa West Foundation: Advance Southwest Iowa. Just like “we don’t coast,” this collaboration is another major piece of the puzzle to improved economic development in the region.
A unique public-private, two-state partnership that includes the City of Council Bluffs, the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Omaha Economic Development Partnership, the Iowa West Foundation, Pottawattamie County, and the Western Iowa Development Association, the goals of Advance Southwest Iowa are to attract and grow business, increase entrepreneurial activity and create new jobs.
While a river may divide us, the workforce unites us. Every day, Nebraska citizens cross into our state while residents from Iowa communities make the commute into Omaha and beyond. It is our hope that the border not be seen a solid line, but a dotted one, where resources of all types can cross back and forth — just like our citizens do.
The partners of Advance Southwest Iowa recognize that we are a ‘community of communities’ in Iowa and Nebraska and that the region’s economic development potential for success is enhanced through cooperation. The success of one community is the success of the region and vice versa. We’re all interconnected.
As this powerful video regarding the “we don’t coast” brand story states: “Here we climb, upward, together.” I couldn’t agree more.
