Local law enforcement will receive a discounted rate to utilize the space for training
The community is invited to attend an open house and ribbon cutting for The Best Jiu Jitsu, an addition to The Best Wrestler at the Iowa West Wrestling Center that adjoins the Iowa West Field House on Saturday, Feb. 10th at 1 p.m. Former Olympian wrestler Georgi Ivanov rolled out the welcome mats for wrestling in October and sought to find more community uses for the space. His new venture, in partnership with experienced instructors Scott Morton and Dan Miller, will be called The Best Jiu Jitsu, and will serve the community with discounted training for local law enforcement.
“We are beyond excited to have The Best Jiu Jitsu join The best Wrestler,” Ivanov said. “Kids and adults are both welcome to use the facility and our law enforcement officers will receive 50 percent off membership.”
Located in the youth sports dominated Mid-America Center area, The Best Jiu Jitsu also joins Fast Break Sports Iowa (Omaha Sports Academy) and the Council Bluffs Pickleball Club at the Iowa West Field House, in addition to the nearby Iowa West Sports Plex dedicated to soccer and other turf sports. Iowa West Foundation leadership believes the new offering will further benefit the community.
“We are glad to see our investment in this facility continue to create new opportunities for community use,” said Foundation CEO Brenda Mainwaring. “Providing low-cost training to first responders benefits everyone who lives in the communities they serve.”
Georgi Ivanov is a 2008 Lewis Central High School alum and a top wrestling recruit in the country for that year. He wrestled for the University of Nebraska Omaha, winning three team championships and two individual NCAA All-American honors before completing his eligibility and bachelor’s degree at Boise State University. Ivanov earned his master’s degree at Maryville University in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he was an Associate Head Coach for the wrestling team. He then qualified for the Bulgarian World Team in 2015 and Olympic team in 2016. He earned his citizenship in 2018 and is now hoping to help local athletes qualify to wrestle for Team USA.
About Best Wrestler
The mission of The Best Wrestler is to help wrestlers accomplish their ultimate goals. We help wrestlers earn their scholarships in athletics along with academics and compete at the collegiate level at little to no cost to their families. We provide athletic longevity and support our wrestlers’ post-collegiate careers. We do this by helping wrestlers gain back their confidence, teach them the sport’s cutting-edge techniques, and provide a tested system for success all year round. We believe that intentional, goal-oriented hard work will beat talent. We know we are successful when we help one of our wrestlers achieve their goals and prepare them to confidently take on life’s challenges after their wrestling career. www.thebestwrestler.com
